Our Canadian volunteer Francis tells us about his amazing time at LEO Africa.
Check it out!
“It was one of the best experiences of my life. I have spent five weeks working in South Africa with the organization LeoAfrica, a program for the conservation and preservation of the flora and fauna in the park. During these weeks, I lived an experience in nature which is just unforgettable. Starting our days at dawn as some animals do, I had the chance to observe them in their natural habitat and to have the opportunity to experience spectacular moments worthy of National Geographic documentaries.
Just to mention a few magical moments...
being surrounded by a herd of 50 curious elephants, encountering the "Big 5" while we working in the field, falling asleep under the stars in the savannah hearing hyenas calling near our camp during the observation night, observing predators on the hunt, admiring animals giving birth, making an expedition in one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world and much more!
Beyond all this marvelous adventures, we learnt so much about wildlife and how to monitor the key species, about the balance of the eco-system and our direct role into wildlife conservation and preservation. At Leo you learn so much about sustainable living, such as reduce, reuse, recycle, repair, rethink and refuse: simple things in our daily life but with a great, positive impact!
Surrounded by this nature I've never felt so alive. It constantly reminded me of the importance of living in the present moment, of trusting your instinct, following your destiny and living in a simple way. Thank you to the animals and nature!
I could say a lot about what I experienced, but the main thing is in the end. We often hear that we must be aware of the animals and this is true, but this time it is the animals that gave me a life lesson.
A HUGE thanks to all the Leo team who make this journey unforgettable. Without your work, your devotion and your initiative none of this would have happened. Thank you for making us feel at home and especially for giving us the chance to be part of this program, to raise awareness on all these subjects which are essential to the Earth. For me it was more than just a volunteer project. It was a revelation, a new passion
Here are some of my photos showing the beauty of what I was lucky to experience”.
