Making Memories That Last Forever
A week dedicated to photographic safaris, nature conservation and wildlife monitoring accompanied by the professional photographer Marco Garofalo, contributor to the “Africa” magazine, and by Sabrina Colombo, ranger and manager of LEO Africa. LEO is a great volunteer programme whose aim and focus is to contribute towards conservation and wildlife monitoring of the big 5, cheetah and hyena populations of the Marataba Section of the Marakele National Park, in the Limpopo Province of South Africa.
The Marataba Section of the Marakele National Park is a beautiful wild and secluded area of 24,000 hectares surrounded by the Waterberg Mountains and crossed by lakes and rivers. It hosts the Big 5 and an abundance of other mammals species, including zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, and bat-eared foxes. Birders will also have the chance to take pictures of various species of incredible birds.
Besides the photographic activities, you will support and participate in the work of a monitoring centre committed to the protection and conservation of South African wildlife, including anti-poaching work, to combine the passion for photography and nature with an active engagement in conservation.
You will also visit the neighbouring National Park, Marakele National Park, which is home to a large variety of wildlife and flora, located in a transition zone between the dry western and humid eastern regions of South Africa. Besides the breathtaking landscapes, the park hosts rare plants such as the Yellowood and the cycads (up to 5 metres tall). The park also hosts the world’s largest breeding colony of cape vultures (currently classified as an endangered species), roosting in the mountains.
