Selati Game Reserve

Selati Game Reserve map

The Selati Game Reserve was proclaimed as a conservancy in 2003 and added more than 30,000ha to the greater Kruger Park area. The reserve is typical of the savannah grassland biome with six different veld types offering a great diversity of habitats that support 26 species of large mammal.

In addition to the pride lion, wildlife you are likely to encounter while volunteering in South Africa includes leopard, elephant, white rhino, cheetah, spotted hyena, sable, eland, reedbuck, kudu, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, nyala, black-backed jackal, and several smaller antelope. Birdlife in Selati Game Reserve is prolific and the region has endemic cycads and an impressive range of beautiful savannah trees.

The Selati Game Reserve is a collection of several neighbouring game ranches that amalgamated to preserve and sustain the biodiversity of this wildlife-rich region. LEO Africa conservation volunteer programmes provide valuable research services for this non-commercial game reserve. The information is used to maintain a healthy ecosystem and restore this land to its former state of wilderness before man came along.

The information is obtained through an intensive predator and wildlife monitoring programme, which offers you, the volunteer, an opportunity to learn about and contribute to conservation in one of the most diverse wildlife sanctuaries in South Africa.
