Monitor animals to improve your CV and gain experience in your gap year before or after studies or as a conservation volunteer looking for an amazing experience.

Doing volunteer work in South Africa, you will:
  1. Determine and monitor predator numbers in the Selati Game Reserve including lions, leopards and cheetahs
  2. Monitor the feeding behaviour, prey selection, kill frequencies, and the ecological impact of lion and other predators in the reserve
  3. Monitor the social dynamics of the Selati Game Reserve's resident lion population
  4. Monitor the spatial movements and territories of predators and mega herbivores in the reserve
  5. Habituate elephants and develop their identification kits
  6. Monitor the conditions of white rhino in the reserve
  7. Collar and habituate resident leopards

Your volunteer work will have a significant positive impact on the conservation policies and practices in South Africa.

The data that LEO volunteers and staff collects goes towards valuable wildlife management reports and well respected academic institutions databases.

Conservation areas will be able to make decisions that effect the balance of ecosystems and help them to restore farmland to wilderness in a sustainable way.

Lions are known as a keystone species. Like the keystone of an arch, lions experience relatively little stress but have a devastating effect on the ecosystem if removed.
